About 33 members and guests attended our
last meeting on Nov 26th. Guest speaker
Peter Smith told us about the Strathcona
Youth Group. This is an outreach support
agency for troubled youth under the age of
24 years old. They help street kids with
social issues with counselling however they are
not a shelter. They work with other agencies
such as the Youth Emergency Shelter but are
independent. Funding comes from provincial
grants. Following the presentation a number of
questions were asked by Optimists. President
Peggy gave our guests an Optimist club pin and
other promotional items.
Past President Wyn was awarded a plaque for
her District service and given a FOO sponsor
pin. Opt Samantha was also awarded a FOO
sponsor pin.
Club reports were given on our various ongoing
projects. We learned that the St Catherine lunch
program is to be operated by the school and
members no longer need to bring food. We
have other schools in mind and will announce
when food donations are required. Our Scout
Group entered a tree and cake into the Festival
of Trees. While you are down at the Shaw
viewing the displays, be sure and vote for our
groups entry.
The meeting was adjourned with the creed.
